Mimi Walters for Treasurer of California?

Meet State Senator Mimi Walters, R- Laguna Niguel. After 14 years in 3 different elected offices, she wants to continue her political career by replacing Bill Lockyer as our State Treasurer.

“Seven of the 19 California lawmakers who rejected a nearly $12,000 pay increase last year quietly changed their mind after the spotlight shifted, state records show.”

“Others who turned down the 12 percent raise but later requested it were Assembly members Mimi Walters, R-Laguna Niguel; ………”

“Ted Costa, executive director of People's Advocate, a political watchdog group that launched the recall drive against former Gov. Gray Davis, said he's not surprised that politicians would try to score points with voters by rejecting a pay increase -- then rescinding their request months later.”

" ‘It's par for the course,’ Costa said. ‘It makes people skeptical, and it hurts (legislators) when it comes to trust.’ “

Mimi Walters has served as chair of ETRPA (El Toro Reuse Planning Authority), a coalition of 10 South County cities opposed to aviation re-use of El Toro.

It is one thing to be in favor of a Great Park at the former El Toro Marine Base, but it is quite another thing for ETRPA to throw several thousand residents in Central Orange County under the bus.

Specifically, there are several instances where ETRPA has taken stances in favor of John Wayne Airport expansion. If an airport at El Toro is a bad idea for Orange County because of “noise, traffic, and pollution”, then how can expanding John Wayne possibly be a good idea?

Actual excerpts from ETRPA Mailers:
"It is estimated that John Wayne Airport can serve up to 15 million annual passengers (15 MAP) without any addition to existing facilities."
-City of Laguna Niguel El Toro Update, November 2000.
(Mimi Walters was the MAYOR of Laguna Niguel at the time!)

John Wayne Airport impacts nearly three quarters of a million residents in Anaheim Hills, Costa Mesa, Lemon Heights, Newport Beach, Orange, Santa Ana, Tustin, and Villa Park.  But as long as the jets don’t go over Mimi Walters six million dollar mansion in Laguna Niguel, she is perfectly fine with expanding John Wayne to maximum capacity!
These John Wayne corridor cities gave over 50,000 votes in favor of the Great Park:
Anaheim 16329
Costa Mesa 5126
Newport Beach 3422
Orange 10162
Santa Ana 9205
Tustin 5873
Villa Park 855

Is expanding John Wayne Airport any way to show these voters some gratitude? If Mimi Walters could show such cavalier disregard for residents within her own county, just imagine how she will treat the rest of California!
